A Level Law

If you like arguing your case, then A Level Law is for you. As part of your studies, you will learn about fascinating areas of law, including the three foundational units of criminal, tort and contract law.

Units include:

  • English legal system
  • law making
  • criminal law
  • tort law
  • contract law
  • nature of law (law and morality, law and justice, law and society).

You will have the opportunity to learn in our new courtroom sponsored by the University of Portsmouth. This is a fantastic facility to take part in mock trials and see the law in action. Join our Law Society and work with our law mentors who are currently in their third year of a law degree. They are available to support you with your work and provide guidance on what studying law at university is really like.

There are typically visits to the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Courts, alongside visits to London, Parliament, the Supreme Court and Royal Courts of Justice. You will also be able to engage with presentations from magistrates and the police and you will take part in mock trials and mooting. Opportunities for work experience will be available and students are regularly informed of opportunities with local and national law firms, in addition to mock trial competitions.

Law is a very popular course at City of Portsmouth College with one of the highest direct progression rates in the College onto law degrees. While many of our students do want to progress onto university or into the legal profession, we also provide lots of support to students pursuing other courses or careers, but want to learn more about the law. This A Level is a very well-regarded, academic and written discipline that provides you with a robust set of transferrable skills for a multitude of next steps.
