Student support
We provide support to enable all our students to succeed in their studies, and we continue to develop that support within the guidelines of the Disability Discrimination Act. Our aim is to fully integrate students with special educational needs or disabilities with other learners wherever possible.
High quality support is in place for all those with additional support needs, including social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. This includes one-to-one support with a mentor as well as in-class support from our learning assistants.
Students also have access to specialist support delivered by our SEN team, who are qualified to work with dyslexia, speech and communication difficulties and emotional literacy issues. We offer a range of assistive technologies and our Study Centres help address the needs of learners with low prior attainment, with support in English and maths, from Functional Skills to GCSE level.
Specialist learning support staff liaise very closely with our English and maths team, to provide personalised literacy and numeracy support. All our learning assistants are available to specifically support learners with their English and maths skills.
Adults with special educational needs or disabilities are welcome to arrange an informal visit to meet the Head of Learning Support, or other specialist members of staff, to discuss their personal support needs in confidence.
