Politicians face first time voters at COPC hustings
PUBLISHED 19-06-2024
Our Sixth Form Campus has played host to two lively hustings events in the run up to the general election.
Organised by Politics Lecturer Steve Fitzgerald, who expertly chaired a Question Time-style panel on both days, the events featured candidates from Portsmouth North and Portsmouth South.
The panellists fielded questions from packed audiences made up of our own students, staff and governors.
“Many of the students will be first time voters this year. I’m really proud of them all!” said Steve.
Taking part were:
Portsmouth North – Penny Mordaunt (Conservative), Amanda Martin (Labour) and Darren Sanders (Liberal Democrat).
Portsmouth South – Stephen Morgan (Labour), Signe Biddle (Conservative), Charlie Murphy (Liberal Democrat), Elliott Lee (Green Party), Mark Zimmer (Reform) and Jacob Short (Portsmouth Independent Party).
The events were captured by ITV Meridian and The News so you can expect to see coverage on TV, in the press and on social media.
