Abbey Road visit hits the right note

A group of Music Technology students have had an amazing trip to London’s legendary Abbey Road Institute.
Lecturer Gary Street organised the first such visit last year – and he’s already been invited back next year!
The group were given a tour from Campus and Admissions Manager Darren Suckling, who showed them the famous Angel 1 recording studio, used by such luminaries as The Cure, Adele, Little Simz, Dua Lipa, Siouxsie and the Banshees, One Direction, Sam Smith, Florence + The Machine, David Gilmour, Stormzy and Robbie Williams.
He even let a couple of piano-playing students try out the £250,000 Steinway grand piano, as well as having a go on the drums.
The students then had an amazing professional mixing workshop from lecturer and engineer Charlie Thomas, who was the in-house engineer at the Pink Floyd-owned Britannia Row Studios in West London.
His credits include Pink Floyd, One Direction, London Grammar, Ella Henderson, Anna Calvi, Little Mix and 5SOS.
Here are just a few comments from the delighted students:
“An amazing experience with an informative and interesting seminar. I have benefited a great deal from the tour, as well as the insight it gave me into working in a studio setting."
"The institute was amazing and the course seems amazing. 10/10 would go again."
"I thought it was interesting to see the recording rooms. I learnt a few new mixing techniques."
"The tour was mind-blowing, seeing the equipment and items around the institute was very humbling."
