Becoming a green energy superpower

It’s Day 2 of Colleges Week and today’s focus is on the government mission for the UK to become a green energy superpower.
Sustainability is a subject close to all our hearts at City of Portsmouth College but none more so than at our North Harbour Campus, Centre of Excellence for construction and building services.
With 35 years’ experience in the industry, Plastering Lecturer Paul Herbert is keen to pass on his skills to students and apprentices.
He’s seen here with a sample of monocouche silicone render, used as external wall insulation to retrofit old properties without cavity walls.
“Properly fitted, in conjunction with loft insulation, good quality double glazing units and so on, it’s possible to improve the energy efficiency of a home by up to 80%,” he said.
COPC is one of only five colleges in the country to have achieved a gold standard in plastering by leading suppliers British Gypsum.
We currently run Level 1 and 2 City and Guilds Diplomas in plastering as well as a Level 2 apprenticeship in internal systems (dry-lining) installation.
Paul added that more Level 2 dry-lining apprenticeships are available. If you’re an employer looking to develop your workforce or a school leaver or adult learner seeking to pick up a skill for life, check out our apprenticeships page and get in touch.
From September we’ll also be introducing a full-time Level 2 Diploma in internal systems.
