Hot on the heels of our Ofsted success, now we've been shortlisted for College of the Year at the national Edufuturist Awards in Manchester this June.
We're one of only four colleges in the UK to be recognised for our commitment to pioneering educational practices and technologies.
The nomination says: ‘Through innovation, accessibility, and digital excellence, City of Portsmouth College has created a world-class educational environment, ensuring learners are fully prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.’
Principal and CEO Katy Quinn said it’s brilliant recognition of the college’s fundamental role in transforming adult education and digital skills development in Portsmouth.
We were put forward after being a key partner in Portsmouth: The Digital City project. As part of the project, they led innovative, future-focused initiatives to ensure learners of all ages and staff are equipped with the digital expertise needed for the modern world.
“Through our commitment to AI-driven education, industry partnerships, and real-world learning, we’ve established ourselves as a leader in bridging the gap between education and industry,” Katy continued.
“We’ve embedded cutting-edge digital training within our curriculum, ensuring that adult learners and staff can confidently navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
“As well as supporting our own students and staff, we’ve also been pivotal in the ‘technology for all’ strand of the Portsmouth: The Digital City project by supporting maths, English and digital learning, delivered both on campus and in schools.”
Survey data highlights a transformational impact on adult learners through significant growth in digital confidence, expanded opportunities for employment and further education and bridging the digital divide.
We also play a crucial role in shaping Portsmouth’s citywide digital education strategy. As part of the Digital City Vision, we:
- Partner with global tech leaders to align courses with real-world digital skills
- Lead on accessibility and inclusion, providing tailored support for SEND adults
- Work directly with the University of Portsmouth, ensuring seamless progression into higher education
- Mentor other education providers, ensuring that best practices in AI-driven learning and industry collaboration are shared across the city.
This will be the 7th annual Edufuturists Awards, celebrating the excellent practice of teachers, leaders and educational organisations around the UK and beyond in 2025.
Last year’s winners were Basingstoke College of Technology and we're up against tough competition from Barton Peveril, Bradford and Nottingham colleges.
The winners will be decided by public vote here. The awards will be announced in Manchester on 26 June.
