For young adults that have ASD and need to work in a smaller, more structured group to develop independent living and work skills.
Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectively and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life.
All programmes have access to a wide range of enrichment activities, including art, drama, dance, multicrafts and sport, to help develop team, interpersonal and creative skills. There are numerous other cross-college activities to get involved with. Our students host their own art exhibitions, take part in theatre performances with students from other areas of the College and enjoy external enrichment trips that develop independence and confidence.
No formal entry requirements are required apart from a willingness to learn.
This course is for individuals aged 16-24 delivered over 3½ days per week for 34 weeks per year.
You will learn the skills you need to live with increased independence, such as shopping and day-to-day household management, budgeting your money, healthy eating, personal safety, using public transport and looking after yourself. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you to identify suitable work opportunities for the future; like timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, team working and problem solving. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (pictorial, photographic and video) which will be presented via a portfolio of evidence. You will have regular tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress.
You could progress to SAIL Entry 3 or Route to Employment.
