Level 2 Certificate in Sport

This course will be ideal for you if you are considering a career in sport and fitness. It has been designed to help those wishing to explore and develop their skills in sports, coaching and fitness.

Units include:

  • participating in sport
  • psychology for sports performance
  • outdoor and adventurous activities
  • leading an outdoor and adventurous activity
  • factors affecting participation in sport.

You will have the opportunity to participate in multiple sports such as badminton, cricket, hockey, paddle boarding, orienteering, football, basketball, volleyball and handball. You will take part in practical sessions to improve your skills throughout the year and boost your fitness levels whilst doing so. You will also participate in outdoor and adventurous activities and have the chance to lead your own outdoor session, gaining vital leadership skills and knowledge of multiple sports.

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths and English.

This is a full-time course for one year at our Highbury Campus.

You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video) which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence. You will have weekly tutorials and receive feedback every six weeks to discuss your progress and to set achievement targets. All our programmes are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a Programme Lead who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching, coaching and learning support staff will work closely with you and your parents/carers to help you achieve planned learning goals.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

This course can provide an excellent stepping stone to the Level 3 Sport course and can help prepare you for employment in the sport and leisure industry. Possible future careers with progression could include sports, coaching, fitness, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and nutrition.
