This course is designed for someone already working in the construction trade and looking to gain an intermediate level of training for employment progression.

This course includes elements such as contributing to setting out and building basic masonry structures, up to damp level course, brick/block work skills and cavity walling.

Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your course and followed at an appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectively and independently. These skills are valued by employers and are a platform on which to build other employable skills. They enhance your communication and ability to problem solve, such as recognising good value deals when making purchases, writing a successful application letter, searching online for local services or using accounting/banking apps.

You will need 4 GCSEs grades 9-2 (A*-E), including maths and English. Candidates must also sit the College initial assessment and attend an interview.

You should already have a basic knowledge of the trade and will be working within the construction trade.

Attendance is usually one day a week, typically 9am-5pm. A high level of attendance is essential for successful achievement.

To gain the diploma, students must be successful in all units and the synoptic practical assignment. They must also pass the City & Guilds online exam in addition to practical knowledge assessments.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
