This course is designed to develop your understanding of the maths and scientific principles of engineering.
You will also learn about how engineering impacts the environment, both in the negative effects, and how engineering can be applied for positive effects.
Mandatory units:
- Principles of engineering
- Materials science and technology
- Engineering in practice.
Optional units may include:
- Computer aided design (CAD)
- Programmable electronics
- Mechanical product design
- Computer aided manufacture (CAM)
- Electrical devices and circuits.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language and grade 6 in maths, with double 5 or better in science.
You will have two lessons per week - one morning and one afternoon.
This course is assessed by two externally assessed units. Exams are 1 hour 15 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes in length, the remaining units are assessed by controlled assessments/NEA.
You could progress to a degree or apprenticeship in engineering.

Airbus inspires in WiSTEM event
Six of our A Level maths, physics and engineering students visited Airbus in Hilsea for a Women in STEM event. They learned about possible careers in the space and engineering sector, discovered how satellites are designed, tested and built, and were even able to try out some of the equipment and processes for themselves.
