Level 3 BTEC Certificate/Extended Certificate in Marketing

This BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Marketing is ideal for you is you are interested in learning about the fundamentals of the marketing sector, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a degree programme related to marketing, or to one of a wide range of other higher education courses.

A career in marketing is multi-faceted, with many different career paths to choose from, all of which have a commonality; the ability to be creative and take a product or service through from a concept to a fully developed product or service that meets customers’ needs and desires.

This course enables you to develop knowledge and technical skills needed to work in marketing at a junior level in areas such as communications, public relations or advertising. Skills are developed through mandatory units; careers in marketing, marketing principles, and customer communications, and include market research, digital marketing, data analysis, effective communication skills, marketing strategy and branding and advertising.

You will develop competency in cognitive and problem-solving skills, using critical thinking, approaching non-routine problems, applying creative and innovative solutions.

This course can be combined with additional A Levels or a Sixth Form vocational course.

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English.

You are expected to attend all timetabled sessions including tutorial. You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.

Assessments will comprise of 70% coursework and 30% externally set written exam. Your coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated.

There are specific requirements in the assessment of these skills, where learners are required to undertake real or simulated activities, such as developing and presenting a customer communications plan, marketing and running an event or creating digital and traditional marketing content and taking part in mock interviews.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could progress to employment via an apprenticeship such as a marketing executive but might also be taken alongside other complementary vocational qualifications or A Levels to support wider career progression. Learners can progress to higher education degree programmes, such as: a BA (Hons) in Business Marketing, a BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing, a BA (Hons) in Marketing with a MFL (e.g., French/Spanish).
