Get started on your early years career path with our Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner. This course is designed for adults looking have an interest in working with children between birth and seven years 11 months.
You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:
• the roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
• health and safety of babies and young children
• equality, diversity and inclusive practice
• safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children
• how to support children’s development
• supportive care routines for babies and young children
• the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and education
• promoting play in an early years setting
• supporting the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
• supporting babies and young children to be physically active
• supporting the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
• promoting positive behaviour
• partnership working in the early years
• support the needs of the child in preparing for school
On completion of this course, you will gain a Level 2 licence to practice in the early years sector.
This course includes a mandatory 250hrs work placement within the early years and education sector.
You will require a Level 1 Childcare qualification or five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths & English.
This full time course is delivered at our Adult Learning Hub and 100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress into rewarding childcare postions. You will be assessed through a variety of ways including, activities, group work and completion of assignments, which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your time in College, and teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our learning centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes and your qualification.
You will be able to progress to a traineeship, apprenticeship or employment as an Early Years Assistant.
